David Binns Named Chief Operating Officer at Macfadden

Macfadden announced today the appointment of David Binns to the newly created position of Chief Operating Officer at Macfadden. The creation of the position speaks to the recent growth of Macfadden and the company's desire to continue to achieve its strategic goals. A proven leader with more than 20 years providing corporations with strategic direction, Mr. Binns previously served on Macfadden's Board of Directors and Strategic Advisory Group, and was a key advisor in the company's move to employee-ownership throughout 2007.

"I look forward to enabling Macfadden to become better prepared as we increase the scale of our operations. During this time of robust growth, our greatest challenge will be to ensure that change is perceived as an opportunity," said Binns. David is an experienced consultant, providing guidance to numerous domestic and international companies regarding the legal, financial and human resource implications of the structure of employee ownership plans. He has also been an active promoter of using employee ownership to facilitate privatization, defense conversion and economic development in several foreign countries. He is a published author and frequent speaker on issues related to employee ownership and enterprise development.

Prior to joining Macfadden, David served as Associate Director of the Beyster Institute, where he advised numerous U.S. companies on strategies for implementing equity compensation plans. Earlier in his career, David served as Executive Director of The ESOP Association, the national trade association representing the interests of companies with employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs) and professionals providing advisory services to ESOP companies. In this capacity, he directed the Association's overall programs including government and public relations, publications, conferences and membership services.

Macfadden Awarded GSA Alliant Small Business Contract as Partner in A3IS, LLC Joint Venture

Macfadden announced today that it has been awarded GSA Alliant Small Business Contract in partnership with A3IS, LLC joint venture. In 2006 Macfadden joined forces with Seidcon, Bay State Computers and Applied Solutions to form a small business joint venture, Alliant Across America Information Services (A3IS), to provide federal government agencies with innovative, cost-effective integrated information technology solutions through the GSA Alliant Small Business contract vehicle. On December 17, 2007, GSA announced A3IS was one of 62 firms selected for this award.

After successfully completing a Small Business Administration review, we are now in the final stages of contract award and anticipate final award by March 31. We are currently in the process of formalizing the joint venture and partner roles. In addition to the joint venture partners, A3IS has assembled a group of teaming partners to further enhance our service offerings. Recognizing the strategic importance of the Alliant Program, this unique joint venture will play an important role in bringing new opportunities to Macfadden by expanding the contract vehicles we are able to market and provide services under to our Government clients.

Macfadden Reports Record Growth in 2007

Macfadden reported a record year of growth in sales and profits for the year 2007 with its revenues increasing by 25%. The 21-year old "company on the move" realized significant new revenues as a result of steady organic growth, expanding its services with current customers at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the U.S. Department of State (DOS). Many of these new tasks are in the international arena.


Macfadden Part of Winning GSA Alliant Team

Macfadden has been selected to be part of a team of approximately 50 large and small businesses led by Northrop Grumman Corporation that will compete for task orders under the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) Alliant indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (ID/IQ) contract ( A new contracting vehicle of the U.S. government, GSA Alliant's purpose is to deliver cost-effective IT solutions to federal government agencies.

"We are excited to be part of this outstanding team of IT professionals," said Russell Hall, President and CEO of Macfadden. "Our team is well-positioned to earn task orders with this contract vehicle and the GSA Alliant contract award will enable us to expand our IT footprint into other federal agencies. It will play a significant role in our growth strategy."

Widely regarded as the next generation of Government-wide Acquisition Contracts (GWACs) for GSA, Alliant is designed to streamline government access to cutting-edge information technology solutions and provide maximum flexibility to efficiently and effectively support the daily operational needs of the federal government. Alliant will eventually replace the current GSA contracts, Millennia and ANSWER.

Awarded to 29 companies, the Alliant contract has a $50 billion contract ceiling and the potential to span 10 years. The contract specifies a five-year base period with one five-year extension possible.

The Alliant contract provides the ability to support both regional and global IT requirements by providing a centralized source for acquiring integrated IT solutions worldwide. Tasks under the contract will include computer network support, software engineering and other computer services. The scope of the contract includes any and all components of an integrated IT solution, including all current technologies and new technologies that may emerge during the contract life cycle.


Macfadden's Grants Management Team Has a Record Year

When a disaster strikes, the ability to speed relief to those in need can often mean the difference between life and death. Macfadden's Grants Management Team at the United States Agency for International Development's (USAID) Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA) has played a pivotal role in the international disaster response process for more than a decade. In fact, since 1992, on behalf of USAID-OFDA Macfadden's Grants Management team has obligated 100% of eligible funds. During the recently-completed FY 2007, Macfadden's Grants Management Team overcame unique challenges in order to obligate all the grants that serve OFDA's mandate to save lives, alleviate human suffering, and reduce the social and economic impact of humanitarian emergencies worldwide.

This past fiscal year was an especially challenging one for the team for a variety of reasons: USAID received funds later in the year due to Foreign Assistance reforms including the receipt of "emergency" supplemental appropriations in the fourth quarter, the deadlines for information to be received by the grants team were moved to a later date in the year, and there were staff shortages across the agency. Under these circumstances, Macfadden's grants management team was faced with the daunting task of having to obligate better than half of the entire year's funds in the 4th quarter of the year alone. This required a tremendous effort of the team to pull together and keep its track record intact. When the fiscal year ended, 100% of the eligible funds had been obligated totaling nearly $400 million in over 400 actions (grants, cooperative agreements, interagency agreements and modifications).

Acting Director of USAID, Henrietta Fore congratulated OFDA, which includes Macfadden's Grants Management Team, by noting, "I fully recognize the challenging circumstances you faced [but] despite all of this, you rose to the occasion to obligate a massive amount of funds in record time."

Among the many grants that were processed during this period of great year-end activity were some that were very high-profile and high-priority: Fourth-quarter grants processed by the Macfadden team provided the resources necessary to respond to heavy rains in North Korea that left over 300,000 people homeless and to the infighting in Sri Lanka that have left the country with many thousands more Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

"Macfadden's Grants Management team is a great example of how our employees continue to deliver results and exceed expectations," said Russ Hall, President and CEO of Macfadden. "They have truly shown their commitment to OFDA's mandate and Macfadden's dedication to humanitarian development."
