Macfadden-SIG Awarded EPA Contract to Provide Document and Data Management Support
Wednesday, 08 October 2008
Macfadden announced today that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Systems Integration Group Inc. (SIG) was awarded a prime contract at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Office of Pesticide Programs (EPA/OPP) to provide Document and Data Management Support (DDMS). This 4-year, firm-fixed price (FFP) contract has an estimated value in excess of $7 million.
OPP is responsible for regulating the supply and use of chemical and biological agents produced, marketed or used for pest control in the United States. Under this contract, Macfadden-SIG will capture data that supports regulatory applications, decisions affecting individual products and pesticide uses, and incident reports involving the use of pesticide products. Additionally, Macfadden-SIG will provide processing and indexing support for pesticide studies, position papers, analyses and administrative records.
"This is a significant moment in Macfadden-SIG history. This contract award presents an opportunity to leverage our combined capabilities," said President and CEO of Macfadden, Russell E. Hall. "SIG's proven record of performance and commitment to quality is validated by our selection to continue supporting this mission-critical EPA/OPP function. We look forward to infusing Macfadden's expertise and experience with comparable projects into our work at OPP."
Macfadden currently provides services similar in scope to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (FDA/CDER), which is tasked with providing regulatory oversight and approval of the drug industry in a manner comparable to EPA/OPP's oversight of the pesticide industry.
SIG has provided document and data management support to EPA/OPP for nearly 20 years. During this period the requirements and business processes have evolved substantially, and SIG has adjusted accordingly. As the EPA migrates toward offering pesticide manufacturers the option of electronic submission of product information, the contract scope has the potential for growth and could provide further opportunities for Macfadden-SIG.
"All of us on the Macfadden-SIG EPA/OPP team are eager to continue supporting EPA/OPP's mission," said Dan Pence, Vice President of Information Technology and DDMS Project Manager. "Our new team has a lot to offer EPA/OPP, especially with respect to technology initiatives with Macfadden's expertise in leading-edge drug safety programs and SIG's understanding of the highly technical and procedurally complex environment at EPA/OPP."
