 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
Office of Pesticide Programs (OPP)
For more than ten years Macfadden has provided production imaging services for EPA OPP. Macfadden supported the digital conversion of approximately one million pages per year of scientific studies and other documents submitted for approval by pesticide manufacturers. This work was performed at Macfadden’s facility in Lanham, MD in accordance with a tight production schedule and in conformance to specific quality standards. The documents being converted were classified as “confidential business information” subject to protection under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act, and as a consequence, all Macfadden staff handling those documents was required to be cleared annually. Completed image files were delivered to the EPA on CD-ROM along with an updated comprehensive document index. Upon EPA’s acceptance of the deliverables, the source materials were delivered to the Federal Records Center in Suitland, MD for long-term storage. Macfadden also provided staff at EPA OPP with on-demand document retrieval and printing from the EPA’s extensive microfiche library.
